Environs Kimberley
The Kimberley, on a crowded planet, is one of the great natural places on Earth, with landscapes of incomparable grandeur. The Kimberley has some of the world’s oldest, still vibrant, living cultures.
The Kimberley coast is considered by scientists to be in the top 4% of intact coastlines on the planet, comparable with the coasts of Antarctica and the Arctic. The region’s tropical woodlands are part of the most extensive and least spoilt tropical savannah in the world; its wetlands, rivers and rainforests are internationally significant. The north Kimberley is the only area in Australia to have experienced no mammal extinctions.
Environs Kimberley (EK) was founded as a charitable organisation in 1996 by concerned Kimberley residents t support Traditional Owners to protect the Martuwarra Fitzroy River. Since then, Environs Kimberley has expanded to protect the whole region, along with Traditional Owners and many other groups and individuals. Our work on marine arks, conservation areas and sustainable development is core business. EK collaborates with Aboriginal ranger groups from the desert to the sea.
As a not-for-profit conservation charity, EK welcomes new members and support from donors and volunteers to protect the Kimberley.
