BROOME STAIRCASE DESIGNS 25th - Julia Prynne

Growing up in the Australian outback gave me an instant connection with the land and nature itself.

Gold was everywhere back in the 60’s and Kalgoorlie was a great place to live, work and play. Dad was on the diamond drilling rigs back then and I got to see first hand what was coming out of the ground. Gold and other semi-precious metals were all there in plenty. Mum, Dad and I also used to pan for gold, occasionally finding little nuggets in the creeks.

I began making jewellery as a hobby, then visited Broome for a holiday and fell in love with its beauty and the lifestyle. Broome was my ‘creative paradise’, inspiring me so much that my ideas just started flowing. I stayed!

I was fascinated by the colours of Broome and mesmerised by the Staircase to the Moon. The way the moon rose across Roebuck Bay, shining its beautiful reflection on the tidal flats. Combining that with the beauty of Broome’s South Sea Pearls, I set on a mission to create something special. A ‘Broome Staircase to the Moon’ design captures forever, the moment you’ve witnessed this natural phenomenon.

In 2000, I set up my first market stall and my ‘Staircase to the Moon’ jewellery was born. My designs were different and sold instantly.

25 Years later, I have two showrooms (Broome and Mandurah), plus an online store. My team and I are very proud of our unique Staircase Collection. When a customer purchases one of our pieces, they not only have a unique piece of our Pearl Jewellery, they have a story of Broome.
